![]() If fungi and other microbes didn’t decompose the bodies of animals and plants they would pile up kilometres deep, which means that we live and breathe in the space that decomposition leaves behind. I became very curious about these organisms. My father told me about decomposition, explaining that there are organisms that compose and organisms that decompose, and although most organisms do both, some are particularly talented decomposers. How does a solid lump of wood become soil, for example? I used to lie in leaf piles in my garden and as they decomposed over weeks I had the puzzling feeling that they were sinking into the ground. Bangor (that’s King’s hometown for non-diehards). King turns up as a pharmacist, amusingly named Mr. King’s novel (written under the name Richard Bachman) about a heavyset lawyer who is literally disappearing due to a gypsy’s curse was made into a rather forgettable movie starring one-time RoboCop Robert John Burke. One of the passengers is a mentally deteriorating broker named Craig Toomy (Bronson Pinchot), who hallucinates at one point that he’s confronting his oily, money-hungry boss, Tom Holby - played by the author - just before the title monsters gobble him up. One of King’s less well-received miniseries, this weird sci-fi saga takes place on a plane that has become displaced in time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Boats on its river are all wooden, with virtually no signage and zero advertising. THE EXPERIENCE: Through some of the strictest landscape and heritage codes in the world, the natural environment in Arashiyama remains virtually untouched, with temples from the 14th century still standing. Most of the residents of London Square were middle and upper class Londoners who tended to look down on the Soho residents. Thomas and Sarah Lewis lived in Soho on Broad Street within an area that was known as the Golden Square. Not something one would expect to do after reading a Mo Willems book, but if you’ve grown attached to Trixie and her family by sharing these books with children, then you, too, will likely tear up when you read the ending of Knuffle Bunny Free. However, when I read the final few pages of Knuffle Bunny Free I cried. Initially I felt sad when I learned Knuffle Bunny Free would be the final installment of the “series.” After all, I had such joy reading aloud from the first two books with my fourth and fifth graders (we used those books to look at author’s craft).
